Securities

The term "Security" can refer to a wide variety of tradeable financial instruments, including Stocks (Equities), Bonds (Fixed Interest), Options or Mutual Funds.  These can all be represented in Maxim Money in the Security form.  To edit a security, select the investment in your Portfolio, right-click and select Edit Security.  This brings up the following form:

Symbol can be any identifier for the security.  If you wish to download prices, this needs to be a recognised identifier for the platform you are downloading from.

Investment Name is any description for the security.

Investment Type is the type of security you are trading.  Currently this can be Equity (common stock), Bond (fixed interest, corporate or government bonds) and Mutual Fund (pooled investments).  The investment type will affect how the investments are valued, and what trading actions are available on that security.  More investment types will be coming in future releases.

Currency is the what the security will be priced in on the market.

Price Display Factor allows you to enter and view prices as a multiple of the price used to calculate the value.  Stocks on the London Stock Exchange are usually priced in pence, so by setting the price display factor to 100 allows you to enter 123 instead of 1.23.  For most other stocks you would leave this as 1 (i.e. prices on most US exchanges are priced in dollars).  Some instrument types price in other factors such as 10,000 so this gives you full flexibility of how you enter and view prices.
